5 Stand is a shotgun shooting event intended to simulate scenarios encountered in bird hunting. Clay targets are mechanically launched from many houses. It's like a cross between skeet and trap with the advantage that it is more action packed than trap and has more intersecting flying patterns than skeet.
Skeet is a clay target shotgun shooting sport where the targets simulate the flight of birds encountered while hunting. Clay targets are thrown from two houses while the shooter rotates through eight different stations. This action provides a wide diversity of presentations including incoming, outgoing, quartering and crossing targets. Targets are thrown as singles from each house or simultaneous pairs from both houses. This diversity provides an excellent venue for learning the basics of shooting flying targets that may be applied to all of the clay target sports or wing shooting. Any gauge shotgun capable of shooting two (2) rounds may be used.
Trapshooting is one of the three major disciplines of competitive clay pigeon shooting (shotgun shooting at clay targets) and is intended to simulate scenarios encountered in bird hunting. Clay targets are mechanically launched from one house. The targets are often rising and going away at different angles. In contrast, skeet has more crossing targets and also some double targets. A round of trap is shot from 5 stations consisting of 5 shots from each station.
