Skeet is a clay target shotgun sport where the targets simulate the flight of birds encountered while hunting. Clay targets are thrown from two houses while the shooter rotates through eight different stations. This action provides a wide diversity of presentations including incoming, outgoing, quartering and crossing targets. Targets are thrown as singles from each house or simultaneous pairs from both houses. This diversity provides an excellent venue for learning the basics of shooting flying targets that may be applied to all of the clay target sports or wing shooting. Any gauge shotgun capable of shooting two (2) rounds may be used. A good resource on the sport can be found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skeet_shooting.
TCSA has 2 skeet fields offering year round shooting. Due to changing daylight with the seasons, the shooting hours are different for summer and winter as specified below.
During these times the skeet range is staffed and fully functional for open skeet shooting. Please check the Club Calendar for confirmation that there are no specially scheduled events that would preclude the skeet shoots. Come join us for some of the best shotgun shooting in New York State.
When there are no scheduled skeet or trap events, these ranges are open for members with their own traps and clay targets to use the fields for practice. Note: Usually there are many left over unbroken targets on the ground available for use by members.
The shooter provides the shotgun and ammunition. The firearm of choice for this sport is often a high-quality double barrel over/under shotgun or it may be a semiauto or pump shotgun depending on the shooter’s preference. Regardless of action type, open chokes will provide the best results. In addition, all of our firearm shooting activities require both eye and ear protection for the participants. This protection is also required for spectators who are on the field. Clay targets are provided by TCSA.
